Growth begins with better systems
After the first seasons, the goal is not just to produce more. The goal is to grow in a way the land, the people, and the business can sustain.
That may mean improving irrigation before adding more raised beds. It may mean planting windbreaks, building healthier soil, or creating a better wash and pack area. It may mean choosing fewer crops and growing them well instead of trying to do everything at once. After we complete our shower/toilet structure we will be starting on our grow garden building to include greenhouse for extended planting and harvest seasons along with a very high fence to limit the deer buffet.
Sustainable growth often focuses on:
Healthier soil
Cover crops, compost, crop rotation, and reduced soil disturbance can improve the farm over time. We use the fallen leaves, goat bedding with manure, which both create some superb worm beds with castings.
Smarter water use
Drip irrigation, mulch, water storage, and careful timing help farms prepare for dry periods.
Stronger markets
A farm stand is also in our very near future, community supported agriculture programs, restaurants, and local stores like our CDR Naturals health food store one mile away can give farms more stable income.
Shared knowledge
Social Saturdays when we can get them back on track provide workshops, farmer groups, and social networks help new farms avoid repeated mistakes.
Realistic pacing
Growth that respects labor, money, and land is more likely to last. Our reinstated mindset is doing it without debt!

We are learning to enjoy this farm life more each season and year. We welcome your visit to chat and exchange ideas. Email us at contact@rgmfarmsbourbon.com to set up a time for Donna and I to meet.
Safe travels for your plans to visit, blessings, Chuck n Donna
